Construction of Railway in Samawa Governorate , from Hajama to Sawa, has been awarded to Boland Payeh Co. This project, which involves massive amount of earthwork, 17 km of railway construction and construction of 6 bridges including 3 underpasses and 3 main bridges on Euphrates, Al-Suwer and Al-Atshan Rivers, will be a part of the railway which connects Basra to Baghdad.
In order to construct the bridges with the highest quality and efficiency, BP has chosen to use Beam Launcher to place each of the 180 ton girders on the main bridges. More than 250 employees are working to complete this project, and 48,000 m3 concrete and 6,500 tons reinforcement rebar will be placed and 1,000,000 m3 earthworks and 38 km track laying shall be done.
Upon completion, Hajama-Sawa railway project will be part of a fast and reliable transportation system which connects south and north of Iraq. This railway will decrease road traffic and accident, and reduces the time and cost of transporting goods and passengers.
As of August 10, 2015, Hajama-Sawa project progress has been 53%. This project was planned to be completed by 2014, but changes in Iraq’s Environmental Enterprise Factors, leads the project delivery to be shifted to early 2017.
